  • The Fathom Tether is a high quality tether designed specifically for ROV and other subsea applications. It is neutrally buoyant, has a breaking strain of 300-350 pounds, and features water-blocking fibers to seal any leaks. With diameters of 4mm and 7.6mm, these wire ropes are thinner than most ROV wire ropes.

    The rope carries one to four unshielded twisted pairs (UTP) of 26AWG wire. These pairs are color coded and arranged in the same manner as a Cat5 network cable, including resistance to cross-talk. A pre-installed Binder 770 plug makes it easy to connect to the FXTI and Fathom coil. At the other end a cable penetrator is installed to interface with the BlueROV2 or any of our waterproof housings.

    Slim tether is distinguished by its size. Its thin profile makes it very low resistance, ideal for deep dives, high current dives and long distance dives where the resistance of the line is felt. The size also makes it incredibly portable and easy to handle. A hundred-meter cable weighs only 3 pounds (1.4 kg) and can be handled by hand very easily.

    Since the thin cable has only two wires, it can only be used for primary communication of the BlueROV2. There are no spare twisted pairs when using this cable, meaning it is not compatible with applications where extra tether pairs are needed.

    The core of the cable contains Kevlar threads for strength and Dacron fibers to fill the space. Both fibers are impregnated with a water-repellent compound to stop any leaks caused by nicks or tears in the cable. The high-visibility yellow polyurethane foam cover resists abrasion and ensures neutral buoyancy.

    The stiffness of the cable has been designed to be flexible enough to allow the ROV ample freedom, but stiff enough not to become tangled easily.

    The capabilities of this wire rope are designed to offer design flexibility and a wide variety of uses. Pololu has housings for 3 position 2.54mm (0.1") crimp connectors and male crimp pins which can be used to connect your own devices to the replacement rope terminations.

    This cable is also available by the meter without terminations at both ends.
